I grew up on a livestock and row crop farm in Northern Illinois. School was always a challenge for me. I was a B, C, and D student and a terrible test taker. But I learned early on that hard work, perseverance, problem-solving, and figuring things out on my own were essential skills for life. In high school and college, mentors and teachers believed in me, recognizing the value of my dedication and work ethic, even when my grades didn’t reflect it.
